Strathcona Resources officially marked the opening of Meota Central, its newest thermal oil facility in Saskatchewan.
On Sept. 21, employees, contractors, government leaders, suppliers and industry partners gathered at the site for a ceremonial ribbon cutting and facility tour. Meota Central is Strathcona’s first end-to-end thermal development project and will add approximately 12,000 barrels per day of production capacity.

Delivering Through Teamwork
The event recognized the planning, execution and collaboration that supported the project’s successful delivery.
Ryan Tracy, President, Lloydminster Thermal, highlighted the team’s contribution in his opening remarks:
“Today is also a chance to recognize the team behind the project. Meota Central was delivered safely, ahead of schedule and under budget because of strong planning, disciplined execution and excellent collaboration across Strathcona.”
The celebration brought together representatives from the Government of Saskatchewan, local government, community organizations, suppliers, contractors and media. Attendees included:

Following the ceremony, guests toured the facility for a closer look at the infrastructure, technology and operational expertise supporting one of Saskatchewan’s largest SAGD developments.
Supporting Long-Term Growth
Meota Central demonstrates Strathcona’s long-term growth potential in Saskatchewan. In his remarks, Adam Waterous, Executive Chairman of Strathcona Resources, reflected on the significance of the milestone for the company and the province.
“Today’s ribbon cutting is about more than the opening of a new facility. It represents what is possible when a capable team, a supportive province and a long-term resource opportunity come together. Meota Central is a tangible expression of Strathcona’s growth strategy in Saskatchewan.”
Premier Scott Moe spoke about the opportunity ahead for Saskatchewan’s energy sector and the role projects such as Meota Central can play in attracting investment, supporting production growth and creating opportunities for communities across the province.
“We have a once-in-a-decade opportunity to actually be able to attract investment, to expand our production, and to expand the opportunities that we have in our communities in this part of the world.”
Meota Central reflects the technical expertise, disciplined execution and collaboration required to advance a major thermal development from sanction to operation.
Building Momentum
The ribbon cutting follows several important milestones for Meota Central. In June, the facility achieved first steam 56 days ahead of its original sanctioned schedule.
Earlier in the summer, more than 50 analysts, investors and representatives from financial institutions and partner organizations toured the facility and learned more about Strathcona’s long-term growth plans.
With Meota Central now in operation, Strathcona is positioned to build on its Saskatchewan portfolio and pursue additional opportunities for responsible, long-term growth.
